Team of Rakshak World Foundation visited the Government High School and Shining Model School in Payer Village of District Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir as a part of environment awareness campaign PEHLA KADAM (First Step ) in October 2022. During the interaction , the teachers and students took very much interest and discussed various issues related to climate change and the role of society as well as the role of each and every individual in protecting the environment. They were briefed about the foundation’s activities and a plan was also shared with them in regard to organizing a drawing and painting competition , on the theme of environment and cleanliness , in villages.
Although these students are not being formally taught drawing and painting as a subject in their syllabus, still they were keen in participating in such an activity . Even teachers showed their keenness and ensured full support for organizing the event. Sanjay Vohra , the President of the Rakshak World Foundation announced that apart from drawing/painting competitions the foundation is also planning to organise sports and fitness related events in the rural areas of Kashmir.
Authorities have also ensured their support for organizing such activities. These fun loving activities are not only for the sake of engagement for kids but also play an important role in developing an individual’s personality especially a student who is in the process of learning. Drawing and painting helps us express our feelings , widen the canvas of our imagination and thought process . It also helps increase concentration power which is the most important aspect in learning.
Students and teachers of these Kashmir’s schools were also briefed , in detail , two days before the competition . They were given enough time for the preparation as for most of the students participating in the drawing competition was their first experience.
